Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
