Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with results this poor.”
He finished, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
