Fans Urge Arrest of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are urging that a individual who jumped a fence and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating clip shows the Australian man pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Numerous supporters blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips circulating online, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on November 21, is the second of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected relationship between two distinct sorceresses.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen Oscar nominations, winning two for best costume and set decoration.
