Iran Reports Strike on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - stated they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
