Major Russian Assaults Cut Power Across Ukraine's Capital

Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's energy systems have come under escalating attacks in recent weeks

During the night, Russian missile and drone strikes have caused blackouts in large parts of the capital city, the Ukrainian capital.

A number of civilians were hurt while local people in eastern neighborhoods were experienced blackouts and dealt with interruptions to water systems, according to municipal leaders.

At the same time, a seven-year-old child was killed in a separate assault in the Zaporizhzhia area in the country's south-east, based on information from local officials.

Moscow has intensified assaults on energy facilities over the past few days, while Ukrainian leadership has demanded "concrete actions" from allies to increase pressure on Russia.

"What's needed is not window dressing but decisive action - from the US, European nations and the G7 - in supplying air defence systems and enforcing penalties," was stated in a social media post.

Officials stated that 450 drones and more than 30 rockets targeted energy facilities, labeling such strikes as "strategic and deliberate" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as winter approaches.

Government representatives said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and maintenance teams were working to restore power.

A wave of strikes hit power facilities and civilian homes in Kyiv.

Five out of the nine people wounded in the assaults on the city have been taken to hospital, according to local officials.

Local officials said the city endured heavy assaults during nighttime hours. A minor lost their life and multiple civilians were injured.

The strikes follow evenings of aerial attacks in the area, portions of which are currently controlled by invading troops.

The whole nation is on alert for hypersonic Kinzhal missile strikes, which are harder to spot.

Government officials told reporters that Russia was purposely seeking to destroy the electrical infrastructure, with assaults already affecting gas facilities.

Authorities confirmed utility staff and officials were bracing for more assaults.
