My feeling was I got a touch - Alex Carey on review reprieve.

Australia gloveman Alex Carey admitted he thought he had nicked the ball when he was reprieved on DRS on day one of the third Ashes series Test against the English.

Having been given a life on 72, Carey proceeded to score a superb 106 to guide the home side finish on 326-8 at the end of play in Adelaide.

The Incident

Australia were 245-6 when Carey attempted a cut shot to the bowling of Josh Tongue.

England lodged a strong appeal, thinking they had heard an edge, but on-field official Ahsan Raza gave it not out.

After captain Ben Stokes opted to review the on-field call, the replay reviewed by TV umpire Chris Gaffaney showed a significant spike but this registered before the ball had passed the bat.

Gaffaney added he believed there was a gap between the bat and the ball.

Consequently, Carey was allowed to continue.

"There was a sound, I thought I'd nicked it," stated Carey.

"Being given out would have prompted a review, though not a confident one. It was a nice sound as it passed the bat."

Controversial 'Snicko'

Discussion has swirled about 'Snicko'' during the Ashes contest after a number of unclear incidents.

England's bowling coach David Saker indicated England may escalate this latest incident further with the match official Jeff Crowe.

"So far we've let it go, but this might push us to take action," Saker said.

"It's been a worry for us all series long. The focus should be on cricket, not technology failures. That's where we are."

Personal Milestone

Carey's century was his maiden in Ashes cricket.

It was also an poignant moment for Carey, whose dad died in recent months. Carey's wife was crying in the crowd as the batsman celebrated by looking to the skies.

"A hundred on home soil with loved ones present is unforgettable," said Carey.

"I guess you know as well why I was looking to the heavens. I'm trying not to tear up. It was truly wonderful."

History of Controversy

Carey has been at the centre of Ashes debate before.

He was the keeper who notoriously dismissed Jonny Bairstow at Lord's in the 2023 series, which created a heated final day.

Speaking about his survival he continued: "The sound wave didn't match up. That's cricket - you get the rub of the green sometimes."

"I might have gotten away with one."
