The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
