The Three Lions to Begin UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium
The England national team will commence their Euro 2028 adventure at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they attain the relatively straightforward entry for a championship staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an England men’s match since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is highly likely to host the Three Lions for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.
England are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, should they win Group B, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Kickoff and Rally
The championship was inaugurated at an event in central London on the previous evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the site by around fifty protesters, who called for Israel’s national side to be expelled from international football because of the situation in Gaza.
Placards were displayed with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Schedule
The opening game of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a game that will feature the Dragons if they make it.
The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5pm.
It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help engage a broader range of viewers.
Participating Countries
The Irish team are scheduled to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would do the same at the national stadium of Scotland.
Each host nation’s squad will participate in the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the standard process.
Venues and Elimination Phase
The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight held at each country’s national stadium.
The qualifying draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was excluded as a host city last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.
Tournament Vision
“This will be a competition for the followers and a celebration of everything we love about the football – its passion and power to bring people together.”
In excess of three million passes, a unprecedented number for a men’s European Championship, are projected to be offered to attendees.
