Torrential Rains Worsen Situation for Evacuated Palestinians in Gaza, Agencies Alert
Persistent storms over the recent period have compounded the extremely difficult situation of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the territory, according to aid organizations.
"Terrible" Conditions Brings Severe Threats
A spokesman characterized the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with precipitation so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the terrain.
"The recent weather was truly horrendous for the families. The storms were so intense... And the gales were so strong," said the representative.
Officials express grave concern that children residing in tents in soaked attire will succumb to hypothermia and other illnesses.
Fatalities and Extensive Loss
The health ministry have stated that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and a minimum of 11 other people have lost their lives in structural failures caused by the severe weather.
Further statements indicate a higher fatality count. Officials said that numerous structures had totally fallen and scores had collapsed partially.

Relief Operations Seen as Insufficient
Groups have escalated shipments of tents, blankets and garments following the ceasefire commenced, but they emphasize there is remains not enough aid getting in.
"Agencies are striving constantly to bring in that aid and to distribute it, but the scale of the necessities is so vast that we continue to see many thousands of people and children who are truly suffering each evening," cautioned one official.
Future Concerns and Agreement Terms
The subsequent part of the truce involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the withdrawal of military forces, and other terms.
Humanitarian organizations have underscored the need for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to respond to immediate and ongoing requirements."
The hostilities was initiated by an assault in the autumn of 2023. Later actions have resulted in a significant number of lives lost in the area, based on official reports.
